Aftercare Instructions

Step by step to care for your Tattoos, Piercings & Lashes

Tattoo Aftercare

Second Skin (also known as SinSkinSaniderm, or HustleButter) is a breathable, waterproof, and germ-proof bandage used for tattoo aftercare. It protects the new tattoo from contamination and allows for a moist healing environment. The bandage is typically left on for 3-5 days, or as directed by the artist, and then removed.

After you remove the bandage, gently wash your tattoo with cold water and anti-bacterial soap (HustleBubbles, H2Ocean, Vitalitree. Do NOT use a washcloth or anything other than your fingers to wash your tattoo. Be as gentle as possible. Your tattoo is a fresh wound; you don't want to cause irritation!

Be very careful about what you apply to your skin during the initial healing phase. Avoid alcohol, because it can dry out your skin. Vaseline can clog your pores and make it hard for your skin to breathe and heal, so that's a no-no, too. The best thing you can apply is a tattoo aftercare balm like Tattoo Goo or Recovery Tattoo Salve. Apply a thin layer 3–4 times per day for the first few days to a week, then switch to a tattoo aftercare lotion like Tattoo Goo LotionAfter Inked, or Recovery Tattoo Lotion. The important thing is to keep your tattooed skin hydrated. Every time your skin starts to dry out, apply another thin layer of lotion.

Piercing Aftercare

Taking care of your piercing is just as important as getting it done. The actual piercing only takes a moment, but the healing process takes time and needs a little patience and consistency. By following the right aftercare routine, you can avoid irritation or infection and give your new piercing the best chance to heal comfortably and beautifully.

Cleaning Tips for Your New Piercing
We recommend cleaning your piercing twice a day for the first couple of weeks. After that, once a day is usually enough—ideally after the sweatiest part of your day. If you feel like your piercing needs a little extra cleaning, that’s okay, just try not to overdo it. Over-cleaning can actually cause irritation, so stick to about twice a day in the beginning, then ease down to once daily as it heals.

What Not to Use on Your Piercing

❌ Rubbing Alcohol or Hydrogen Peroxide – too harsh and can damage healing tissue.
❌ Antibiotic Ointments (like Neosporin) – they trap bacteria and prevent airflow, which slows healing.
❌ Harsh Soaps or Strong Fragrances – can cause dryness and irritation.
❌ Homemade Solutions (like vinegar, tea tree oil, or essential oils) – unpredictable and often too strong for fresh piercings.

Downsizing Your Piercing Jewelry

As your piercing heals, it’s important to downsize your jewelry (switch to a shorter post or bar). Downsizing helps reduce irritation, prevents snagging, and supports a smoother healing process.

The first downsizing usually takes place about one month after your initial piercing. Be sure to schedule an appointment when it’s time—I’ll have the appropriate jewelry ready for you.
